Manchester Meadows - is located in Valparaiso Indiana, Valparaiso means "Vale of Paradise." The name honors US Navy Commodore David Porter (thus the county name) who commanded the frigate Essex in the battle of Valparaiso, Chile during the War of 1812.
Around 1670, the area now known as Valparaiso was visited by early pioneers. In 1822, the area's first settler, French-Canadian Joseph Bailley, established a successful fur trading post on Lake Michigan shores (about 12 miles north of today's Valparaiso). The U. S. Government purchased the land, which included the future Valparaiso, from the Pottawatomie Indians in October of 1832.
Highlights: Porter County Seat, Valparaiso University, Historic downtown square, Unique shopping and dining, Houses over a century old and the Memorial Opera House.
Town/City Nickname: "Valpo" (It's easier to say than Valparaiso!)
